Business Reporting Research Project

Update of Electronic Distribution of Business Reporting Information—Survey of Business Reporting Research Information on Companies’ Internet Sites
May 21, 2002

This project is updating a study done in 1999 on how companies use their websites to communicate with investors and others interested in their financial position and performance and other business information.

The project is based on a survey of a stratified sample of the 1500 largest companies listed in the January 9, 2002 Fortune assessment. The fieldwork, now complete, was performed by Fordham University students in March 2002, under the supervision of Professor Cheri Mazza and FASB Post-Graduate Research Assistant Robert Parfet. The websites of 129 companies were examined, and as many as 267 elements collected about each company’s reporting.

We are now beginning the data analysis stage, with results expected in June.
